Learning Disability Week 2020

Learning Disability Week takes place this week, 15th June to 21st June; the theme of this year’s Learning Disability Week is the importance of friendships during lockdown. As a result of the Coronavirus, all celebrations and activity will take place solely online. For those living with a learning disability the lockdown has led to feelings of isolation as they have been unable to see their friends and families.

This week is an opportunity to highlight the importance of friendships in helping to tackle feelings of isolation, as well as looking for new and different ways to maintain these important friendships in such an unusual time. As part of the week, Mencap are asking us to share who makes up our #MencapFamily, sharing how important they have been during lockdown.

They have also created a pack you can download to help have a fun video call with friends, it includes how to make a friendship flag and how to share the message of friendship during this difficult time.

For those looking to use this week as an opportunity to look at increasing their awareness and understanding of Learning Disabilities, the ReachOut team has distance learning courses available to you! Get in touch with the team if you want to find out more, you can either give us a call or email.
